Brighter futures Initiative (BFI) was introduced in 1992 to assist First Nations in developing community based approaches to better health in a culturally sensitive manner.
The BFI program is made up of five components which are; Mental Health, Child Development, Parenting, Healthy Babies and Injury Prevention.
The program promotes health and prevents ill health through learning related activities. It provides funding for activities that are intended to support the well-being of all SLFN members.
Some activities Swan Lake First Nation BFI program has funded:
– Breakfast program at Indian Springs School
– Children’s outings
– Traditional Parenting Classes
– Donations to Men’s and Youth Groups
– CPR Training
– Baby Car Seats & Infant Formula
– Support to Cultural Gatherings and Sweat Lodge
– Annual SLFN Powwow & Powwow Club
– Cooking Classes
– Nannabush Teachings & Story Stick presentations at Little Buffalo Youth Camp
