POSITION: Driver Department: Jordans Principle

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swan Lake First Nations Health Center is seeking a “Class 4 Driver” for Jordans Principle. The
position will include one full-time driver who will be called to drive daily. The Jordan’s Principle driver will
provide safe transportation for Swan Lake First Nations community members to, and from their activities,
events and scheduled appointments. The Jordan’s Principle driver will deal directly with the Jordans
Principle Manager, Assistant Manager, Home Care Nurse, Medical Transportation, and Health Director.
The Jordan’s Principle Driver(s) shall:
• Be available to transport Jordan Principle clients to programs/medical appointments.
• Record and make entry in the “daily log book” before starting the morning transportation and
upon completion of final trip at the end of the day.
• Ensure that “Medical Appointment Information” sheet for community members are complete for
each client.
• Be responsible to ensure that the Jordan’s Principle vans are well maintained on a regular basis
and serviced when necessary.
• Be responsible to always keep the Jordan’s Principle vans in sanitary and clean conditions at all
times, including washing the outside.
• Keep an accurate record of gas and oil used by obtaining a receipt at the time of purchase.
• Under no circumstances will hitchhikers or commuters be allowed to ride the Jordan’s Principle or
Medical vans.
• Any community members that are picked up for appointments are to be dropped off at the point
of pick up.
• Immediately you report any mechanical problems encountered with the Jordan’s Principle vans to
the Jordans Principle Case Manager
• Always speak and act in a courteous and respectful manner.
• Must be courteous and can communicate effectively with other staff, community members,
elders, and medical clerks in medical facilities.
• Must be responsible for their cellular phone.
• Will be responsible for any driving infractions committed while on duty.
• Must follow all traffic regulations while driving.
• Provide on a yearly basis or as required – photocopy of Driver’s License, any required Medical
Examination reports, and Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Person Check.
• Must be willing to help plan for events if there are no appointments scheduled, and help team run
Jordan’s Principle events as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a minimum Class 4 Driver’s License
• Minimum of grade 12 or equivalent training or experience
• Must submit a recent driver’s abstract (obtainable from the department of Highways and
Transportation) upon employment with the Swan Lake First Nation
• Must be polite, courteous, and willing to accommodate clients
• If CPR and First Aid Certificate is not current, the successful applicant must be willing to take
CPR and First Aid training
• Must submit a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Persons Check
• Must submit a Child Abuse Registry Check
• Must provide a complete medical/physical examination from a physician annually
• Ability to work within a team environment
• Must understand confidentiality and personal health and Information Act (PHIA)
• Required to sign a confidentiality agreement
• Willing to work evenings and weekends
• Willing to be called on short notice
• Strong leadership, critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Valid provincial Class “4” Driver’s license
• Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons check and Child Abuse Registry check.
▪ CPR/Basic First Aid training
▪ Required to sign a confidentiality agreement
▪ Must be willing to submit to random drug testing.
