Swan Lake First Nation Post Secondary

The Swan Lake First Nation Post Secondary Education Program provides support to eligible members of Swan lake First Nation to pursue post secondary education.

Our office is located on our SLFN 8a property at 165 – 200 Alpine Way, Headingley, MB, R4H 0B7.

ANNUAL APPLICATION DEADLINES:

Applicants must submit the required documents to the Post Secondary office by the annual deadline date. ONLY complete application submissions will be processed. Applicant will be notified in writing once a decision has been made.

Annual Application Deadlines:

  • Fall / Winter Term Entry – Deadline is June 15th
  • Winter Term Entry – Deadline is November 15th
  • Spring/Summer Term Entry – Deadline is March 15th

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS for COMPLETE SUBMISSION:

  1. Copy of Full Admissions Acceptance Letter from an eligible Post Secondary Educational Institute. Please contact the Post Secondary office for list of approved educational institutions.
  2. Completed SLFN Post Secondary Sponsorship Application
  3. Copy of Most Recent School Transcripts / Statement of Marks
  4. Proof of Status to Swan Lake First Nation. *New band members must be registered for a minimum of two years from application submission date. *
  5. If claiming dependents for student allowance must provide confirmation of dependents. Document must list names and birthdates of dependents.

PRIORITY LIST FOR SELECTION OF FUNDING:

  1. Continuing Students
  2. Recent High School Graduates
  3. Withdrawals for Just Cause – i.e., medical
  4. Deferred Applicants – All deferred applicants who were not funded the previous year due to budget restrictions
  5. Returning Students
  6. No Previous Sponsorship
  7. Previously Funded and Unsuccessful

APPLICATION SUBMISSION OPTIONS:

  • Mail Originals to the Post Secondary Office at 165-200 Alpine Way, Headingley, MB, R4H 0B7
  • Scan into pdf. and email to the Post Secondary Office at postsecondary@slfn293.ca

*NO SCREENSHOTS WILL BE ACCEPTED*

DECISIONS ARE MADE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Receipt of complete application submission by application deadline
  2. Eligible post secondary educational institute
  3. Eligible program – minimum of one academic year or longer in duration
  4. Applicant place on priority list for funding
  5. Available program funding

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Post Secondary funding is valid for only one academic year: from Fall to Summer term.
  • All students/applicants must apply annually for sponsorship.
  • Applications are processed the day after each deadline date.
  • Applicants will be notified of decision within two weeks of the processing date.
  • Incomplete application submissions may be delayed until ALL required documents and information to process request is received.
  • If applicant’s chosen program is less than one academic year request will be referred to the Employment & Training program.
