Post Secondary Education

The Swan Lake First Nation Post Secondary Education (PSE) office provides financial support for our eligible band members to pursue post secondary education at recognized Post Secondary Educational Institutions.

Educational Institutions must be on our funders list of eligible schools. Contact the Post Secondary office for list of approved schools.

Eligible programs MUST be:

a minimum of one academic year
a maximum of five academic years

Our office is located on our SLFN 8A Property in Headingley, MB, on the 3rd floor of 200 Alpine Way.

Office Hours:
Monday to Friday
8:30am to 4:30pm
Closed for Lunch Hour.

ANNUAL APPLICATION DEADLINES:

June 15th – Fall / Winter term
November 15th – Winter term
March 15th – Spring/Summer term

If any of the above dates fall on a weekend, application submissions will be accepted until the end of our next business day at 4:30pm (MB Time).

PRIORITY LIST FOR SELECTION OF FUNDING:

Continuing Students.
Recent High School / Mature Student High School Graduates (within 2 years of application).
Withdrawals for Just Cause – Examples. Health, Medical, Economic.
Deferred Applicants – Applicants who were not funded the previous year due to budget restrictions or program seat limitations.
Returning Students who graduated and changing careers. Must be within the limitations of education levels (UCEPP > Level 1 > Level 2 > Level 3).
No Previous Sponsorship Received from SLFN.
Previously Funded and Incomplete.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS for a COMPLETE SUBMISSION:

Proof of FULL ADMISSIONS to an eligible school. *Contact the PSE office to confirm school is on our funders list of approved schools.	Must provide name of educational institute, campus location, program of study, level of education, start date, and duration of program.
Estimated Program costs.	Tuition, student fees, textbooks, materials & supplies, etc.
Completed Sponsorship Application form.	Complete all relevant sections, sign, and date.
Copy of MOST Recent School Transcript.	The last school of attendance.
Proof of Swan Lake First Nation Status.	Since birth, or Minimum of 2 consecutive years.
Proof of Financial Dependents.	If claiming for student living allowance support. Example. Copy of Most Recent Child Tax Benefit Assessment from CRA.

DECISIONS ARE MADE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:

Eligible educational institution.
Eligible program.
Complete Application Submission by the deadline.
Applicant place on priority list for funding.
Available program funding.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Please allow 2 to 4 weeks application processing time.
Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision made regarding their request.
Applications WILL NOT be processed until ALL required documents and information to assess an applicants eligibility is received.
If applicant’s program is less than one academic year = they will be referred to other funding sources, such as the SLFN Employment & Training office.
