The youth recreation building construction is in full swing, with fall 2027 set as the target for completion, creating a dedicated space for young people in the community.
Throughout the winter, Public Works is especially busy clearing snow from all roadways, driveways, businesses, and parking lots using loaders, skid steers, and a grader to keep the community safe and accessible.
In the summer months, the team focuses on grading roadways, building new roads to support our expanding infrastructure, maintaining drainage systems, and cutting grass.
Public Works also takes care of our bison herd of over 100 animals. In the winter, they are fed hay bales twice a week; in the spring, fences are checked and repaired before the herd is put out to pasture; and in the summer, it becomes a full-time job cutting and baling hay to prepare feed for the next winter.
Our water plant services many homes through water mains, while homes not directly connected to the water line rely on holding tanks that are regularly filled by one of our two water trucks.
In addition, Swan Lake First Nation operates its own gravel pit, and every two years an external contractor is brought in to crush gravel to meet the community’s growing demand for construction and maintenance materials.
