Position Summary:

Interns will receive technical, hands-on training in a number of areas to gain transferable skills related to becoming a Class 1 Water Operator.

The Internship includes virtual training courses, hands-on workshops, 15 months of paid internship work experience, and the ability to obtain Small Systems Certificate, Operator-in-training (OIT) Certificate, Entry Level Certification for Drinking Water Operators (ELC), Water Quality Analyst (WQA) Certificate and Class 1 Treatment.

Interns will complete a work placement in a local Water Treatment Plant assisting the Plant Operators, as well as conduct other duties as assigned.

Additional supports including travel, phone allowance, training accommodation and limited childcare support are available for qualified candidates

Women are water-keepers and are encouraged to apply.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Must be affiliated with one of the participating First Nations
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or willingness to obtain with tutoring support during the duration of the program
  • Eligible for community skills training support
  • Must be available for duration of the full-time 15-month internship
  • Must be willing to travel (paid) for training

Desired Additional Qualifications

  • Interest in water and environmental science, enjoys physical activity and being outdoors
  • Suggestion: Strong interest in Math and Science
  • Ability to identify issues and problem solve; not afraid to tackle problems hands-on
  • Self-starter, organized and excited to learn new things
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle considered an asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Access to reliable transportation to and from work as travel may be required.
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons check and Child Abuse Registry check.
  • Must be willing to submit to random drug testing.
