In partnership with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Swan Lake First Nation Housing department is
seeking one (1) youth for the Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program with the role of a Youth
Maintenance Worker.
The Youth Maintenance position is designed to provide hands-on training and practical work experience in
housing maintenance and basic plumbing systems. Under the supervision of the Housing Department and
Plumber, the intern will assist with plumbing repairs, inspections, installations, and preventive maintenance
within our community housing unites and buildings.
This position offers an opportunity for youth to develop valuable trade-related skills, workplace experience, and
knowledge of housing operations. The intern will assist with plumbing repairs, inspections, installations, and
preventative maintenance within community housing units and buildings.
The goal of this role is to support skill development, career exploration, and mentorship in the skilled trades
while contributing to the overall upkeep and maintenance of community housing.
What is the Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program (IYHIP)?
A youth employment program providing work experience and on-the-job training for First Nations, Inuit and
Métis youth.
The Goal of the program is to assist interns in gaining work experience and pursuing long-term employment in
the housing sector, or a related field.
Who can be an intern?
• First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusive.
• Must not be otherwise employed during the internship.
• Must not be receiving Employment Insurance benefits or must agree to discontinue the benefits before
the start of the internship.
• We encourage internships for First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth, women, 2SLGBTQI+ youth, and youth
with disabilities.
